Facebook HAS grown like crazy, no doubt about it. Younger folks use it continuously and now a huge wave of us baby boomers are jumping in. My son and his friends do not use other other e-mail at all any more and he says some of them just stay logged in on facebook constantly. He wasn't surprised at all that FB gets more traffic than google, says google is used only now and then to look up things but facebook is where he and his friends LIVE online. He has his facebook stuff forwarded to his phone, and since his phone goes off constantly I believe it. Crazy!

As huge as this news is for both facebook and google, what it means to me (and maybe you) is... 'don't put all of your eggs in the google basket' because there's other fish to fry. Doesn't matter to me at all who is in front. Google Buzz will surely take note. In the end the fact is that BOTH are important to traffic and that won't change any time soon. Both are a HUGE draw for slightly different audiences, and to ignore either of them would not be wise.

p.s...I am preparing to move soon so I am squeezing in posts between endless packing of boxes. NOT fun, but a welcome break from hauling heavy crap around. Never wanna move again...and will never again be a packrat!

Alex, many businesses now have FB fan pages which it seems DOES get them relevant traffic from FB as well as serious branding. It may be in infancy stage but still seems a trend to watch. Did you see the link below? It is about apps on FB but also includes some examples of businesses who are using FB fan pages for both branding and traffic, and doing so very effectively. Brilliant post!
